Battle of Varna (1444)
The pope, encouraged by 12 year-old Mehmet II’s coming to the throne, did not recognise the ten-year agreement. The crusaders under the command of Hungarian king Ladislas crossed the Danube and captured the Ottoman lands in Balkania. Venetians closed the Dardanelles in order to prevent the Ottoman’s passage. Murat II held the throne again with the invitation of his son Mehmet II and two forces met at Varna which ended with the Ottomans’ victory , therefore strengthening the Ottoman suzerainty in Rumelia.
Battle of Kosovo (1448)
John Hunyadi (Hunyadi Yanos), as the revenge of Varna invaded Serbia. The two armies met at Kosovo. In 1448 the ottomans defeated crusaders. After this victory the Ottomans’ sovereignty in Balkania was fully realised. The empire reasserted control of Europe, south of the Danube.
Murat II died in 1451 and was buried in Bursa after Mehmet II’s coming to the Ottoman’s throne.
