AHMET I (1603-1617)
Ahmet I held the throne at the age of 14 with the support of Kuyucu Mustapha Pasha. Ahmet I ended the tradition of the brother murdering with the new regulation of “Ekber / Ersed”, choosing the oldest and the most intelligent brother as the next in line.
The successors of the Ottomans, then, imprisoned in the palace with the lack of governing abilities as they were no more positioned as sanjakbeyi and in the fear of being murdered in the palace.
Ottomans had to struggle with the Habsburgs in the west, Iran in the east and Celali revolts in Anatolia. Ahmet I’s grand-vizier Kuyucu Murat Pasha surpassed the revolts for a while with his harsh measures by killing nearly 100.000 people
