MURAT I (1359-1389) While the Ottomans were spreading on both sides of Anatolia and Rumelia, the governance of the state became very important. On the other hand, Byzantium was in need of European help. Edirne was in a very strategic point for the Ottomans to stop European help. Therefore, the idea of Edirne's capture was among Murat I's primary plans. But before that he had to stop Ali Bey of the Karamanids in Ankara. After the struggle, Ali Bey accepted to be on the same side with the Ottomans and added Ankara and around once again into the Ottoman's border.
