Foundation of the Kingdom of Bulgaria (1908)
Bulgaria received its independence with the Congress of Berlin of 1878 as a princedom and Eastern Thrace was left to the Ottomans with the condition of conducting reforms in the province. Bulgaria announced the joining of Eastern Thrace to Bulgaria. The Ottomans fearing European intervention, accepted the unity except Kircaali and Rodop, that, to be left in the Ottoman administration.
Bulgaria, advantaging from the Ottomans’ turmoil during the Second Constitution, declared its independence as the “kingdom” in 1908
